Everything out of Place, 2019

Collaged on the canvas, accumulations of memories, observations, materials, and spaces, layer to create paintings that reflect my surrounding and remembered environments. Walking between representation and abstraction, gestural and defined, built and natural, these works combine symbols of spaces and materials from my installations and memory paintings. Bold colours and marks create separate spaces within the paintings and denote the distinct traces of my thought processes. The paintings are built using a reactional method – layering, adding, and removing elements – until the composition reaches synchronicity. Everything Out of Place reflects my subjective process of observing and making in the studio, with the intention of proposing new, elaborate, and theatrical two dimensional spaces.
